Tibet, home to hundreds of monks. Every afternoon, in the monastery's
courtyard, the monks hold their famous philosophical debates clapping their
hands, asking sharp questions, and challenging each other's understanding of
Buddhist teachings. It is lively, intense, and fascinating to watch, even if
you do not understand the language.
- Drepung Monastery — The Largest Monastery in Tibet: Drepung was once the largest monastery in
the world, with over 10,000 monks living here at its peakIts white buildings,
golden rooftops, and peaceful atmosphere make it one of the most beautiful
places in the whole of Tibet.
- Norbulingka Palace — The Summer Garden of the Dalai
Lama: While the Dalai Lama spent
winters in the Potala Palace, the warmer months were spent at Norbulingka the
beautiful garden palace on the western edge of Lhasa.
- Zongjiao Lukang Park — Potala Palace Reflection: Behind the Potala Palace, there is a
lovely park built around a small lake. In the calm water, you can see the
perfect reflection of the Potala Palace one of the most photographed scenes in
all of Tibet.
Good to Know Before You book Lhasa tour package from Nepal
Visiting Lhasa requires special permits that are different
from a regular visa. Here is everything you need to know, written clearly.
What Documents Do Nepali Travellers Need for Lhasa?
Visiting Lhasa requires two important documents a China Group
Visa and a Tibet Travel Permit. Both are different from a regular Chinese
tourist visa. Here is how it works:
- China Group Visa:
Nepali travellers entering Tibet from Nepal need a China Group
Visa a special type of Chinese visa specifically for entering Tibet from
Nepal. It must be applied for at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu and
requires a minimum of 4 people applying together. Guru Travels will connect you
with other travellers if needed. Processing takes 4 to 5 working days.
- Tibet Travel Permit (TTB Permit): In addition to the Group Visa, all
visitors to Tibet need a Tibet Travel Permit issued by the Tibet Tourism
Bureau. This permit can only be obtained through a licensed travel agency which
Guru Travels will arrange for you. Your guide will carry the original permit
and present it at checkpoints. The permit takes approximately 15 to 20 days
to process.
How Do You Travel from Nepal to Lhasa?
The easiest and most popular way is the direct flight from

week. Alternatively, you can travel overland via the Gyirong border crossing,
though this takes 15 to 20 hours and is weather-dependent.
