These treks deliver unforgettable Himalayan experiences without breaking the bank. Perfect for first-time trekkers, students, backpackers, and anyone with limited time.
Trek #1
Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek
If you're looking for the best short trek in Nepal that
delivers maximum mountain impact for minimum time and cost, Ghorepani Poon Hill
is your answer. Starting from Pokhara just 7 hours from Kathmandu by tourist
bus this 4 to 5-day trek climbs to the iconic Poon Hill viewpoint at 3,210
metres for one of the most photographed sunrises in all of Asia.
Standing at Poon Hill at dawn, watching the first golden light
illuminate Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre
(Fishtail) all at once, is the kind of moment that stays with you forever and
it costs a fraction of the longer classic treks.

consider the Mardi Himal trek instead similar region, far fewer crowds.

Ghorepani to arrive at the top before the crowds. Bring a warm layer it gets
cold at that altitude even in spring. |

Trek #2
Langtang Valley Trek
Often called 'the valley of glaciers,' Langtang is one of
Nepal's most beautiful and underrated trekking destinations. What makes it
special for budget-conscious trekkers is its proximity to Kathmandu just a
7-hour drive meaning no expensive domestic flights are needed.
The Langtang Valley trek passes through dense bamboo and
rhododendron forests, high alpine meadows, and traditional Tamang and Tibetan
Buddhist villages before reaching the glacial valley and the sacred Kyanjin
Gompa monastery at 3,870 metres. It offers a depth of cultural experience that
the more crowded Everest and Annapurna routes sometimes lack.

Trek #3 Mardi Himal Trek
Mardi Himal is Nepal's best-kept trekking secret and it won't
be secret for much longer. This relatively new, officially opened trekking
route in the Annapurna region combines the dramatic mountain scenery of the
Annapurna circuit with the intimacy and quiet of an off-beat trail.
The trek rises through dense forests, past high ridge camps,
to a base camp at 4,500 metres with jaw-dropping close-up views of Mardi Himal,
Machapuchare (Fishtail), and the Annapurna range. It's more challenging than
Poon Hill but significantly cheaper than the classic Annapurna Base Camp trek
making it the perfect middle-ground option.

Trek #4
Annapurna Base Camp Trek
The Annapurna Base Camp trek known as ABC is consistently
voted one of the most beautiful treks in the world. Walking through a dramatic
and ever-changing landscape that shifts from terraced rice paddies and
rhododendron forests to glacial moraines and a high-altitude amphitheatre
surrounded by seven Annapurna peaks, this trek is a masterclass in Himalayan
diversity.
Standing at Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m), encircled by
Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhare, and
Gangapurna, is a moment of profound natural grandeur. This is one of the best

Trek #5
Everest Base Camp Trek
No list of the best treks in Nepal would be complete without
Everest Base Camp. This is the trek that defined Himalayan adventure tourism
and it continues to deliver one of the most profound physical and emotional
experiences available to a human being.
The classic 12 to 14-day route flies from Kathmandu to the
world's most dramatic airport at Lukla (2,860m), then follows the ancient
Sherpa trade route through the Khumbu Valley, past the market town of Namche
Bazaar, through Buddhist monasteries and high yak pastures, all the way to Base

Honest Advice
Altitude sickness is real on the EBC trek. Proper
acclimatisation days (built into our packages) are non-negotiable. Never rush
this trek. A licensed, experienced guide is strongly recommended and Guru
Travels' EBC packages include one as standard.
|
⚠️ Safety
Note Two acclimatisation days are included in all our EBC
packages in Namche Bazaar (3,440m) and Dingboche (4,410m). Never skip these
days. Ascending too fast is the single biggest cause of serious altitude
sickness on the Everest trail. |

Trek #6
Annapurna Circuit Trek
The Annapurna Circuit is considered by many experienced
trekkers to be the finest trek in the world. Circumnavigating the entire
Annapurna massif over 14 to 16 days, it passes through an astonishing range of
terrain and culture from subtropical jungle and terraced farmland in the
lowlands to the arid, wind-swept high-altitude plateau beyond the Thorong La
Pass.
Crossing the Thorong La Pass at 5,416 metres is the circuit's
defining moment a challenging but achievable high-altitude crossing that
rewards trekkers with extraordinary views across the Himalayas and the
satisfaction of having earned every step.

Trek #7
Gosainkunda Lake Trek
Gosainkunda is one of Nepal's most sacred trekking
destinations a stunning high-altitude lake at 4,381 metres that holds deep
significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. According to Hindu mythology, the
lake was created by Lord Shiva's trident and is believed to be directly
connected to the Kumbheshwar Temple in Patan by an underground channel.
As a trekking route, Gosainkunda combines excellent scenery
passing through the Langtang National Park's rhododendron forests and high
ridge lines with profound cultural and spiritual significance. It can be
completed as a standalone trek or combined with the Langtang Valley trek for a
more comprehensive northern Nepal adventure.

💎 PREMIUM TREKS IN NEPAL
NPR 150,000 and above
These are Nepal's most exclusive, demanding, and unforgettable
trekking experiences. Premium treks typically enter restricted areas requiring
special permits, involve high-altitude passes, or combine multiple trekking
regions into a single extended expedition. They require experienced guides,
careful planning, and a bigger investment but they deliver experiences that
money rarely buys elsewhere in the world.
Trek #8 Upper
Mustang Trek
Upper Mustang is unlike anywhere else in Nepal or the world. A
former independent Tibetan Buddhist kingdom only opened to outside trekkers in
1992, the region retains a culture and landscape so ancient and preserved that
walking through it feels like stepping back 600 years.
The walled city of Lo Manthang, the remote monastery of Luri
Gompa with its 1,000-year-old cave paintings, and the wind-carved red and ochre
cliffs of the Kali Gandaki gorge make this one of the most visually and
culturally extraordinary places on the planet. And crucially Upper Mustang is
in a rain shadow, making it one of the very few treks in Nepal that is
excellent during the monsoon season (June–September).

Why the Cost is Worth It The USD 500 restricted area permit directly funds
conservation and the local community of Upper Mustang. This is one of Nepal's
most fragile and extraordinary cultural landscapes your visit, done
responsibly through a licensed agency like Guru Travels, helps preserve it. |

Trek #9
Manaslu Circuit Trek
For experienced trekkers looking for the raw, uncrowded
adventure that the Annapurna Circuit used to offer before it became famous, the
Manaslu Circuit is the answer. Circling the world's 8th highest mountain
Manaslu at 8,163 metres this restricted area trek is one of Nepal's most
challenging and most rewarding long-distance routes.
The trek crosses the dramatic Larkya La Pass at 5,106 metres,
passes through remote Gurung and Tibetan communities rarely visited by
outsiders, and delivers a genuine sense of wilderness and isolation that is
increasingly hard to find in Nepal's more popular trekking corridors.

Trek #10
Everest Base Camp + Gokyo Lakes Trek
If the classic Everest Base Camp trek is the most iconic trek
in the world, then the EBC + Gokyo Lakes combination is its ultimate upgrade.
This 16 to 18-day route combines the full Everest Base Camp experience with a
crossing of the stunning Cho La Pass (5,420m) to reach the turquoise Gokyo
Lakes and the summit of Gokyo Ri at 5,483 metres.
From Gokyo Ri's summit, you can see four of the world's six
highest mountains simultaneously Everest (8,849m), Lhotse (8,516m), Cho Oyu
(8,188m), and Makalu (8,485m). This is arguably the finest high-altitude
viewpoint in Nepal and the sight of the brilliant turquoise Gokyo Lakes against
the black and white of the Himalayan giants is the most dramatic landscape many
trekkers will ever witness.

Frequently Asked Questions Nepal Trekking
Which trek is
best for first-timers in Nepal?
For absolute beginners, the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is the
best starting point. It's short (4–5 days), starts from Pokhara, requires no
technical experience, and rewards you with some of the finest Himalayan sunrise
views in Nepal. If you have 7–8 days and are reasonably fit, the Langtang
Valley trek is an excellent step up closer to Kathmandu and far less crowded
than the Everest or Annapurna routes.
How much does
trekking in Nepal cost in 2026?
Nepal trekking costs vary widely depending on the route,
duration, and level of support. Budget treks like Ghorepani Poon Hill start
from NPR 18,000–25,000 per person for a fully guided package. Mid-range treks
like Everest Base Camp range from NPR 120,000–160,000. Premium restricted area
treks like Upper Mustang cost NPR 180,000–250,000 including special permits.
All Guru Travels packages include guide, porter, accommodation, meals, permits
and transfers.
Which is
better Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Base Camp?
Both are extraordinary but suit different types of trekkers.
Everest Base Camp (5,364m, 12–14 days) is the more iconic, involves a domestic
flight to Lukla, and reaches higher altitude making it more physically
demanding and slightly more expensive. Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m, 7–10 days)
is shorter, cheaper, more accessible from Pokhara, and offers arguably more
diverse scenery. For first-time high-altitude trekkers, ABC is the better
starting point. For the ultimate bucket-list experience, EBC is unmatched.
Can I trek in
Nepal without a guide?
Since April 2023, Nepal requires all trekkers in national
parks and conservation areas to be accompanied by a licensed guide. Independent
trekking without a guide is no longer legally permitted on most major routes.
Beyond the legal requirement, a good guide significantly enhances safety,
cultural understanding, and the overall experience especially at altitude. All
Guru Travels packages include a licensed, English-speaking guide as standard.
What is the
best month to trek in Nepal?
October and November are widely considered the best months for
trekking in Nepal skies are crystal clear after the monsoon, temperatures are
comfortable, and mountain visibility is at its peak. March, April, and May are
equally excellent, with the added bonus of rhododendron forests in full bloom.
Avoid June–August for most treks due to monsoon rain the exception being Upper
Mustang, which is in a rain shadow and is actually best during monsoon.
Is trekking in
Nepal safe?
Yes Nepal trekking is safe when done with a reputable,
licensed travel agency and a qualified guide. The main risks are altitude
sickness (mitigated by proper acclimatisation and not ascending too quickly),
weather changes, and trail conditions. Guru Travels Limited is fully licensed

first aid and altitude emergency response. We also provide 24/7 emergency

Do Indians
need a visa to trek in Nepal?
No Indian citizens do not require a visa to enter Nepal. A
valid Indian passport or government-issued Voter ID card is sufficient for
entry. This makes Nepal the most accessible international trekking destination
for Indian travellers. Nepal trekking packages for Indians are among our most
popular offerings, with the Annapurna Base Camp and Everest Base Camp treks
being especially sought after from cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore,
and Kolkata.
How fit do I
need to be for Nepal trekking?
Fitness requirements vary by trek. For the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, a basic level of fitness is sufficient if you can walk 5–6 hours a day on uneven terrain, you can do it. For the Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit treks, regular cardiovascular exercise (hiking, running, cycling) in the weeks before departure is strongly recommended. For the Manaslu Circuit or EBC + Gokyo, a serious fitness programme and prior high-altitude trekking experience is advisable. Our team can provide specific pre-trek fitness guidance for any route.
